The St Jerome’s Centre would not be possible without our fantastic Kenyan team, who work tirelessly to ensure the home runs as it should. We are passionate about the wellbeing of our staff and each member receives a fair wage, ensuring that they in turn can care for their families.
Carl is the Manager of St Jerome’s and chairs the South Rift Association of Charitable Children Institution (ACCIK). Carl describes himself as an open minded and sociable individual and his proactive and passionate approach to his work is admired by us all! When he is not undertaking one of his many managerial roles at the centre, he enjoys playing football and socialising with friends. He is also studying for a diploma in Project Planning and Management. We are very lucky to work alongside such a kind and generous individual who embodies the St Jerome’s values!

The ‘Aunties’ are the children’s main care givers, you name it they do it. From home cooking, washing clothes and keeping the centre tidy, with 33 children you can imagine how hard they work! The Aunties have also obtained certificates in Child Abuse Rights and Protection Management, HIV/ AIDs Management and Rape Management. They provide invaluable guidance, love and support to all of the children at the St Jerome’s Centre.

Grace has been with us since we opened in 2012. Her characteristic laugh can always be heard throughout St Jerome’s which led to her nick name, ‘the smiling machine’.

Mary joined us in 2016, she has three children of her own and says that her favourite pastime is looking after children, so she has the best job in the world!

Phyllis is described as polite and hardworking by everyone at the home and loves listening to Gospel music in her spare time.

A safe and secure home is vital, and whilst incidents are a rarity, break-ins and violence are a risk we take seriously. Our 2 nightguards, Musa and Elijah, are originally from the Maassai and have worked with us at St Jerome’s since 2013. They are responsible for maintaining security at the home and ensuring the gate is closed at 7pm to allow a safe nights sleep for our children and Auntie’s. When not on duty, they enjoy travelling around Kenya, listening to music and watching movies.
Francis is responsible for looking after our livestock and shamba (a small piece of land behind the home where we grow vegetables). When he’s not milking the cows or tending to the chickens, he enjoys swimming, dancing and listening to music.
